Grasshopper is a personal library and social book-lending app. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your choices. We aim to collect only what the app needs to work.

What we collect

  • Account details. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name to create your account.
  • Content you create. The books on your shelves, reading status, reviews and ratings, personal tags, loan records, friend connections, and borrow requests.
  • Device notification token. If you enable notifications, a push token so we can send borrow and friend alerts.
  • Crash and diagnostic data. If the app crashes or hits an error, we collect the error, a stack trace, and basic device information (such as model and OS version) so we can fix it. This is configured to exclude personal identifiers.

How we use it

We use your data only to provide the app: to keep your library, to show your books and reviews to people in your network according to the visibility you choose, to enable lending between friends, and to send notifications you have turned on.

How it is shared

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for third-party advertising. Other users see only what you choose to share through the app's visibility settings and your friend connections. Data is stored with our hosting provider, Supabase, and crash and error reports are processed by Sentry. Both process data on our behalf and do not use it for their own purposes.

Crash and error reporting

To find and fix bugs, the app sends crash and error reports to Sentry, our error-monitoring provider, which processes them on our behalf. A report contains the error, a stack trace, and basic device information, and is configured not to include personal data. We use it only to diagnose and fix problems.

Security

All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Your sign-in tokens are stored in encrypted device storage.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account in the app, or by following the steps at getgrasshopper.app/delete-account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

Children

Grasshopper is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
